Royal / Military Buckle Ghillie Brougue

      from £89.00

Ghillie brogues are most commonly seen as an essential component of traditional, formal Scottish dress and are worn primarily for social occasions. Historically this has not always been the case as they trace their roots to a rudimentary shoe originating in Scotland and Ireland that was constructed using untanned leather with perforations that allowed water to drain from the shoes when the wearer crossed wet terrain such as a bog. The word "brogues" originates in the late sixteenth century and is a derivation of the Irish and Scots Gaelic "brōg", taken from the Old Norse "brók" meaning "leg covering". Available with either a Leather or Manmade Sole.

Loake is a family run business producing fine, handmade men's footwear since 1880. The tradition began when three brothers - Thomas, John and William - opened a factory in Northamptonshire in the heart of the English shoemaking industry. The aim was to provide the most handsome, comfortable and durable gentlemen's shoes possible. Today, more than 130 years and five generations later, Loake is still family owned and operating in the same town in Northamptonshire. Loake shoes have become a favourite with discerning customers worldwide and are exported to over 30 countries. Loake was awarded a Royal Warrant of Appointment to the Queen in 2007.
